Large-scale Russian Strikes Cut Electricity Across Ukraine's Capital

Power facilities targeted in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have come under increased strikes in recent weeks

During the night, Moscow's aerial assaults have led to power cuts in large parts of the capital city, the Ukrainian capital.

Nine people were wounded while residents in the city's east were plunged into darkness and dealt with disruption to water systems, according to local authorities.

Meanwhile, a minor was fatally injured in a distinct Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southeastern part, as reported by local officials.

Moscow has increased attacks on power infrastructure over the past few days, while the country's government has called for "concrete actions" from partner nations to exert influence on Russia.

"What's needed is not superficial actions but firm measures - from the America, European nations and the G7 - in supplying protection systems and enforcing penalties," mentioned in a social media post.

Authorities reported that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and over thirty missiles struck energy facilities, labeling such assaults as "cynical and calculated" and against "essential services" as the weather cools.

Energy officials said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were laboring to fix the damage.

A barrage of missiles damaged electrical systems and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Multiple people wounded in the assaults on the capital have been taken to hospital, per statements from municipal representatives.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region experienced significant strikes during nighttime hours. A seven-year-old child lost their life and multiple civilians were hurt.

The assaults come after periods of air raids in the region, parts of which are occupied by Moscow's military.

All of Ukraine is in a state of readiness for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are harder to detect.

Authorities told the media that Moscow was purposely seeking to destroy the national power system, with attacks already disrupting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed utility staff and officials were anticipating further attacks.
