The artist has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the United Kingdom's small concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release the album was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds supported venues that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges caused by water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in modernizing infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in large arenas helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

In Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, vocalist Cocker announced that the group would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician the artist shared her bounty among a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

In recent years, they contributed their prize money to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also the 1994 recipients they donated their award to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the condition.

"The victory was ample," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had rescued two local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is funded by a national body and supporters who buy "stakes" in the venues.
