This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like typical physical horror, but beneath Together exists a profound examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for over ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their roles, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The narrative commences when Tim and Millie relocate from the urban environment to the country for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes during something horrific). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is waning due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He dreads the notion of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple confront the sort of issues that come with long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of codependency and fully committing to another person, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
